KBA Meetings for 2008Our Kentuckiana Beekeepers Association will conduct a couple of "Introduction to Beekeeping" classes. Monday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson County Cooperative Extension Office located at 317 South 3rd Street in Bardstown, KY. Thursday, January 17th, 7:00 p.m. at the Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Office located at 384 Halls Lane in Shepherdsville, KY. Tuesday, January 22nd, 7:00 p.m. at the Shelby County Cooperative Extension Office Beekeepers will discuss startup costs, space needed, location of hives, neighbor concerns, level of local beekeeping association’s help, and beekeeping classes throughout the state. KBA Regular Scheduled Meetings and Tentative Agenda Friday, February 1st, 7:30pm at Bon Air Library Spring Management and discuss items to bring for March meeting. Friday, March 7th, 7:30pm at Bon Air Library Assemble Equipment (hands-on) and discuss items needed for new beekeepers and installing packages. April - Field Day (Date and Site to be determined) Install Packages at someone's apiary - discuss management of splits, nucs, and packaged bees, discuss Spring requeening, and practice marking drones so a queen will be easy to do. May - Workshop (Date and Site to be determined) Inspect hives (hopefully some which were from packages and/or splits). June - Workshop (Date and Site to be determined) Inspect hives. Practice grafting for queen rearing. Discuss fall re-queening and making fall nucs. July - Workshop (Date and Site to be determined) Honey extraction at a member's apiary or make fall nucs. Possibly distribute queens made last month for fall re-queening. Friday, August 1st at 7:30 pm at Bon Air Library Discuss State Fair agenda and establish volunteers work schedule for the Fair. Open discussion period. September - Field Day (Date and Site to be determined) Inspecting hives and discuss winter apiary preparation. Friday, October 3rd, 7:30pm at Bon Air Library Making lotions, lip balms and candles (great Christmas presents.) Hands-on participation. 2009 KBA Officer nominations. Friday, November 7th, 7:30pm at Bon Air Library Election of 2009 KBA Officers. Discuss Beekeeping issues and "Lessons Learned" during this season. Friday, December 5th, 6:30pm at Bon Air Library Christmas Party and Dinner. NOTE: Earlier start time. |
