January Meeting - Beekeeping 101 & Autoclave Sterilization

  • Louisville Nature Center 3745 Illinois Ave Louisville (map)

The January meeting is an introduction to beekeeping for anyone wanting to start in 2019. Please come to get more information and to meet local beekeepers.

We are set to have the autoclave at the Louisville Nature Center for our January 6th meeting.  You can drop off your equipment before the meeting between 2 p.m and 6 p.m. so that it has time to sterilize and pick it up at the meeting itself.  This goes for any wooden/metal equipment you want sterilized.  Any boxes or frames that are used will be steamed to a disease-free state.  Wax will melt, so if you want your comb, remove it first.  The autoclave collects the steamed wax at the bottom and they are able to take it and analyze the contents for diseases, which benefits beekeeping in the area.
